Ah! "Nothing finer than a meal enjoyed with a friend who doesn't speak her every thought". To celebrate Naomi's birthday I took her to a Yaki Niku ( grilled beef) restaurant. We ate until we could no longer remember why we'd started eating. We even tried Fois Gras which tasted suspiciously like egg but with a very un-egg-like price!
At work today we made Okonomiyaki (like a hot cake with meat and a shredded fish topping) and the students loved it. I don't know exactly why we made a typically Japanese dish in an English lesson but nevermind. It really opened my eyes to how much kids enjoy what they're doing. It was very much like a party without the conversation or forced smiles. It always interests me the fact that kids often don't speak to each other, but more like out into the world - sending off words and jokes into the Planet of Sounds. Not that conversation is a bad thing but that sometimes talking is all we ever do.
