Tokyo has entered the rainy season but oh ho ho ho it's not raining . Today I discovered that sometimes by adding noise to a place you can actually decrease the amount of noise you hear. Let me explain. I can hear the trains passing by from my house, it's not very noisy but in moments of heightened sensitivity it can get annoying. However, because of the humidity today I got out my fan and set it swirling and now I can't hear the trains. You might say in a condescending tone " yeah but now you've got the noise of the fan Mr. Ignoramous", but you'd be wrong - I can hardly hear the fan! This is what I call the mystery of sound:
if you place a more pleasurable but less obtrusive noise over a loud noise the loud one disappears. The Mystery of Sounds in the Planet of Sounds.....
