A diary of my life in Tokyo 2003-2006

Today is a fine day. I love fine days. Yesterday was a fine day, too. We went to Toshimaen, yesterday, which is a huge water park. There were 31 slides, in all. Kamikaze ( incidently, this means God-Wind ) and super twisting ones, roofless and tunnels. Using the method, invented by PA Scher and Ben Scher back in the 1980's, of 'shoulder blades and heels reduced surface area technique', we were able to speed down the slides. There was this one slide, 30C, which went in cirlces, continuously gathering momentum until it spat you out in the pool. I even felt the G's. From the tops of the slides, you could see the vague silhouette of the mountains, and below us the crowds laughing their way around the park. There were very slim girls in bikinis and very slim men in trunks. We were routinely stared at by both; firstly, because my belly is a bit podgy, and secondly, because we both have body hair and Japanese men do not. Suffice to say, I am now on a diet of yogurts and lentils, but there's no way I'm shaving my body! The 3 things I've learnt from the day are: bikin's are good, Japanese men have no body hair, and there's no better way to enjoy the sun than to go to a water park.
My brother is coming over in October, so we are planning trips to Kyoto, Nara and Tohoku. It's going to be a real adventure - 2 weeks of free roaming. I'm really looking forward to showing him around. We'll be like two ronin clouds drifting over the lands of Japan, facing our deaths with calm resignation, relishing our lives with childlike innocence, and following the tracks of ancient warriors and Zen monks of a bygone era, with the joy of discovery. Or, we might just play Pachinko. Depends......
